Natural vs Relaxed

In October 2009, comedian Chris Rock released the film “Good Hair” that spoke about the Black woman’s quest to find good hair. What is good hair to say the least? To be honest I do not know. The question of our hair is a sensitive issue in the black community. With the emergence of the natural hair movement in this decade or so, many black women are embracing their unprocessed natural hair. YouTube has become our best friend and we are displaying our natural curls. However there are some people who still relax their hair or use enhancements with their hair. The debate seems to be if someone is black enough if their hair is not in their natural state. To be honest it is just hair. I believe as a woman I have options to do whatever I want to do with my hair. Personally I have natural hair. It has been a long ten years but I have used enhancements to say the least, does that mean I don’t embrace my blackness. I don’t think so. It is a shame that we are divided over something so trivial as hair. What are your thoughts on this subject? Do you think it is a problem in the black community?
